Childhood was enjoyed in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, N.Y. My family moved to the south shore of Long Island where I attended Lawrence High School which, like so many suburban schools, was like a Disney fairy tale compared to city schools. Life was better and I appreciated the difference.
Four interesting, exciting and bone crushing years were spent at N.Y.U. school of Engineering. My sanity was saved in freshman year by singing with N.Y.U.'s Glee Club. Practice always immediately followed testing in Physics, Chemistry, Math, etc. By 6 o'clock, the trauma was gone.
R.O.T.C. allowed me to enter and complete a two year hitch in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I was stationed in France and was executive officer of a heavy equipment rebuild company which served all of Europe. For the last six months, I held the positon of Safety Officer on the General's staff, 4th Log Command, France. Nowhere, except the armed services, could a person so young and inexperienced be given responsibility and accountability at such a high level. It was a wonderful experience.
After several years of working in engineering for N.Y. Telephone Co. and attending graduate business school at N.Y.U., I decided to change my life's direction. Two more years in night school to get the required biology and chemistry courses allowed me to be considered, then accepted for study towards my degree in Dentistry.
Ruth and I were married in 1966, one year before starting dental school. I worked summers and she worked for five years until our son Brett was born in 1972. Dru arrived six years later.
In 1973 I assumed an Orthodontic practice in Brooklyn and continued practicing general dentistry part time. One year later, the Glen Cove practice was established on Forest Avenue. My family moved to Glen Cove and the adventure started. Several years later, the Westbury location followed by the Bayville location were added.
My interests over the years have been varied and many. Sports of all kinds have been enjoyable. My paintings (acrylics and oils) as well as sculpture (figure studies) are found displayed at my home. Music too has played a large part in my life. I enjoy playing and composing on piano and guitar.
My great delight is in helping people. Over these past 25 years thousands of patients and parents have experienced the personal touch of the philosophy of caring shared by all of us in the practice. The clinical and administrative people here are always selected for their caring and sweetness as well as expertise and talent.
Over those years in Orthodontic practice, thousands of hours of post graduate study in the areas of clinical practice, psychology, philosophy and research have been spent, and it never stops. I believe that constant and continuing education is mandatory if we are to provide a superior and excellent service to those we help. The proof of the pudding lies in the happy smiling faces of patients whose treatment was completed years ago and who return to say "Hi!", or stop us in the street in friendship and love. That is one definition of success. I thank you for helping all of us achieve that.
